Obsessed and fixated stalkers hide behind mask of anonymity
Research published today indicates both online and offline stalking increased during lockdown.
The research published by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust highlights how the use of masks aided the anonymity of the stalker and how daily exercise was used to follow or monitor the victim.
It is disappointing to note victims expressed dissatisfaction with the response and understanding of stalking by police and the courts and generally felt unprotected despite new protective orders such as Stalking Protection Orders.
The impact of stalking on victims is significant, 91% of victims report an impact on their mental health.
All referrals to Protection Against Stalking during the last 12 months included elements of online stalking (social media, email, texts).
